GRA, VAT, and E-VAT in Ghana
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) administers VAT. The standard VAT rate has been 15%, with the National Health Insurance Levy and the Ghana Education Trust Fund Levy charged in addition, so the combined rate a customer pays is higher than 15%. Ghana has been reforming how these levies combine and the turnover level at which registration becomes compulsory, so check the current rates and threshold with GRA before you put tax on an invoice. The generator has a single editable VAT percentage: enter the combined rate that applies to you, or list a levy as its own line item.
E-VAT (Certified Invoicing System): GRA has been rolling out E-VAT, which requires VAT-registered businesses to issue fiscal tax invoices through a GRA-approved Certified Invoicing System (CIS). A PDF from this generator is an ordinary commercial invoice and is not an E-VAT invoice. It suits small businesses and freelancers who are not VAT-registered. If you are GRA-registered and need E-VAT compliant certified invoices, consult GRA or a tax professional.
Mobile money in Ghana: Many clients in Ghana prefer to pay by mobile money. Type your mobile money number and registered name, or your bank account, into the payment details field and it prints on the invoice, so clients can see how to pay without asking.
