COC and compliance notes

A Certificate of Compliance (COC) is required under the Electrical Installation Regulations (2009), published under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 85 of 1993. Only a registered electrical contractor may issue a COC. Include the certificate number on your invoice once issued as it serves as proof that the installation is safe and compliant.

The easy way: make the PDF and send it on WhatsApp

You do not need a Word or Excel template. Open the free invoice generator on your phone or laptop and fill it in like this for an electrical job:

  • Your details: business name, contact number, address and banking details. Add your registration number under your business details, and your VAT number only if you are VAT registered.
  • Client: the client name and the address of the property where the work was done.
  • Invoice number, date and due date: type your own number and keep the sequence going (EL-2026-018, then 019).
  • Call-out fee: one line, quantity 1, at your call-out rate.
  • Fault finding and inspections: a fixed-fee line each, with a short description of what you tested.
  • Labour: put the hours in the quantity field and your hourly rate as the price, so the client sees 3 x R450.
  • Parts and materials: one line per item (earth leakage unit, surge protector, breakers, cable) with quantity and unit price.
  • COC: give the Certificate of Compliance its own line, and put the certificate number in the description or the notes once it is issued.
  • VAT: switch it on only if you are registered. The generator adds 15% and shows the subtotal, VAT and total.

When the preview looks right, click Download PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print dialog. Nothing is stored on wabill and refreshing the page clears the form, so save the PDF to your phone or computer before you close the tab, and keep a copy for your records. To send it, open the chat with your client in WhatsApp, tap attach and choose Document (not Gallery), so the PDF arrives uncompressed and easy to print. If the COC is still to follow, say so in the notes so the client knows what to expect.
